last night i spent the night on a bus. on purpose. i splurged for the fully reclining seat and it was worth it, though i still did not sleep that great. its weird to sleep with your feet hurtling at 90km/h down the freeway. i wish i had a photo of these double decker buses--two levels and probably only about 50 seats total because all the seats fully recline. not bad.

the buenos aires bus terminal is intense. i think its the first large terminal i've ever been to on my own that does not also have english directions. it is not the scariest or craziest station. that award goes to the bus depot in kampala. but thankfully none of my ugandan friends dreamed of letting me go there alone. other places i've been alone have english instructions in general, i think. this was just mass spanish chaos. on our way out of the station, the news (las noticias) were doing a story. it is the beginning of winter vacations for argentine students, hence the fact that "todo el mundo" (the whole world), according to my seat mate, was at the bus station.
i did my best to looked unflapped and nonplussed, but there was a moment where i thought i might actually miss my bus. and at that moment, the prospect of getting to mendoza looked so intimidating i was almost ok with it.
but i made it, and mendoza is a mountain town (like denver or colorado springs) and its lovely and chill and i'm working on booking a mountain climb for tomorrow and a wine tour for another day.
